What is the purpose of this site?

Stereo-Lithography file, or STL, is becoming a standard among CAD softwares, 3D printers and other rapid prototyping devices.
The file describes a 3D model's surface geometry and nothing else - what makes it perfect for such devices.

Until now, in order to view an STL file you had to download and install some software on your PC, and run it every time you wanted to view the file. For someone who works with STL very often - it can be quite a hassle.

We think it is a matter of time until browsers will be able to show STL files automatically (much like they are able to show "jpg" and "png").
- but until then, you're more than welcome to type viewstl.com in your browser any time you want to view an STL file ...

What technology do you use?

We use three.js library, with HTML5 and some good old javascript.

Do I need to install anything on my computer?

Not at all. all you need is a modern browser (and a computer ... of course).

I don't want my STL files to be published on the internet ... are they secured?

We upload nothing to our server. All is done locally on your own computer. Hence - Your STL is NOT being published on the internet.

What other file types do you support?

Other then STL files (both binary and ASCII), we support OBJ files and 3MF files. We're planning to add support for more types soon.
